Welcome to Charborough Estate
in the heart of Dorset
Welcome
Charborough is a traditional rural estate located near Blandford in Dorset. Steeped in history, and first recorded in the Doomsday Book, Charborough has a rich heritage and is now host to a variety of activities.
Our enterprises range from long-established agricultural and forestry businesses, to significant residential and commercial lettings, and shooting opportunities in a relaxed atmosphere. Additionally, Charborough has the land to host public events and has many picturesque film locations.
Richard Drax, who currently runs the estate, has a clear aim:
“The Estate has been in our family for about 600 years and has been loved and nurtured over many generations. My aim is to safeguard its future, while moving with the times and diversifying where we can. We are blessed with stunning countryside and an abundance of wildlife, responsibility for which I take very seriously.”

Our Heritage
Charborough (in Latin, Cereberie) was recorded in the Doomsday Book in 1087 as having been held by King Harold before 1066. Initially granted to various Norman knights, the families involved over the next four hundred years included de Paunton (by 1299), de Ivelton (by 1372), Morvyll (by 1397), Camel (by 1420) and the Wykes (c.1450). Mary Wykes married Walter Erle in 1549 and the current owners are directly descended from them.
